Sweet Stuff Bakery moving to downtown New Albany

New location to be at 325 Spring St.

Sweet Stuff Bakery, located at 605 Silver St. since 2002, will soon be moving to downtown New Albany.

Due to “steady, consistent growth” according to its husband and wife owners, Tom Raatz and Diane Christopher, Sweet Stuff was forced to look for a bigger location with more parking.

The new location will be at 325 Spring St. A grand opening is scheduled for the first week in October.

“This is the third time we’ve expanded, and it’s always been in response to our customer’s love of our sweet treats,” Christopher said in a press release.

Renovation work has been under way to turn the vacant building into the new Sweet Stuff.

“I’m happy we can offer folks in downtown New Albany a more convenient way to satisfy their sweet tooth,” Raatz said in the release. “We’re also looking forward to helping brides-to-be with our new expanded wedding consultation room.”

Sweet Stuff has built its business on its cookies and hand-made cakes.

New Albany Mayor Doug England was pleased with the announcement. He said it has been “a while” since the downtown had a full-service bakery.

“Sweet Stuff Bakery will really add to the service oriented, retail mix that keeps coming to life in downtown New Albany,” he said.

Realtor Ed Clere, a broker with RE/MAX Results in New Albany, represented Sweet Stuff Bakery in purchasing the property. He said the bakery will be a valuable addition to the downtown area.

“It will be another amenity for residents of downtown and nearby neighborhoods, and it will give people from all around Southern Indiana and Louisville yet another reason to visit downtown New Albany,” Clere said,

Develop New Albany President Mike Kopp said the downtown area has added almost 50 new businesses in the last 21 months.
